Living a creative life
A series of workshops that stimulate creativity that can be commissioned
ENTERING INTO CREATIVITY
A workshop for 1st year college art students exploring the underlying dynamic out of which all forms of creative expression emerge.
This workshop helps students come to terms with how they enter into the primary working ground of the dichotomy between the known and unknown. The known in the form of facts and formulas is important to creativity but over-reliance on them can result in being stuck in habit. On the other hand experimentation and curiosity are vital to the creative process but can have their own pitfalls. To help the students come into their own way of dealing with this area I help them consciously engage with this dichotomy and find realistic solutions.
We will draw on inspiring examples from the life of Leonardo and others to help make the topics accessible.
The format of the workshop is structured to draw the students into a personal learning experience and strengthen their ability to be creative. Firstly a topic is introduced such as; e.g. What directly helps or hinders you experiment and try new things? There is an opportunity to clarify the topic so everyone is clear what we are all talking about, then an opportunity to discuss the topic in pairs or a small group of peers, so that each individual comes into their own relationship to the topic. Then there is a plenary session to learn from each other, usually ending with a clarifying synopsis by the workshop leader. All the questions and topics are around the relationship between having a working ground of skills/ knowledge and the ability to be spontaneous/playful. This workshop lasts up to 3 hours
Please consider inviting me to give this one-off workshop when you are next planning your programme of events for year one college art students.
